Troubleshooting guide
This troubleshooting guide is developed to provide understanding and remediation procedures of system-level and hardware related issues.
Hashboard issues
Overcurrent
Hashboard drawing too much current
If your hasboard is drawing too much current, follow the procedures below:
- From the Proto dashboard, select Logs from the left-nav menu
- From the upper right of your dashboard, click Export
- Email the logs to mining.support@block.xyz for further assistance and hashboard replacement
- Unplug the miner
- Remove the rear fan module
- Remove the affected hashboard
- Carefully insert the replacement hashboard into the appropriate slot with the baffle (flat surface) facing left and the heatsinks (fins) facing right
- Reattach and re-tighten the rear fan module
- Plug your miner into its power source
- Enter your miner hostname into a browser search bar to return to the ProtoMine dashboard
First, download the logs
Next, replace the hashboard
For proper alignment, ensure the top edge of the hashboard is inserted into the first slot of each top partition. Be careful not to damage the board edges or components.
Overvoltage
Hashboard drawing too much voltage
If your hasboard is drawing too much voltage, follow the procedures below:
- From the Proto dashboard, select Logs from the left-nav menu
- From the upper right of your dashboard, click Export
- Email the logs to mining.support@block.xyz for further assistance and hashboard replacement
- Unplug the miner
- Remove the rear fan module

- Enter your miner hostname into a browser search bar to return to the ProtoMine dashboard
First, download the logs
Next, replace the hashboard
For proper alignment, ensure the top edge of the hashboard is inserted into the first slot of each top partition. Be careful not to damage the board edges or components.
Overheating
Hashboard overheating
The hashboard overheat warning is triggered when one or more hashboards reach 75 °C (167 °F). If your hashboard reaches this temperature, the control board will attempt to restart the affected hashboard up to three times within five minutes, while unaffected hashboards continue to hash. If the affected hashboard is unrecoverable, the control board will disable the affected hashboard.
You may proactively resolve this issue using one of the following mehtods:
- From the Proto dashboard, click the Power icon in the upper right of your screen
- Select Reboot
Dashboard reboot from LAN
API Reboot from LAN
From your LAN, send a request to your POST/api/v1/mining/system/reboot endpoint
- First, generate your password from the serial number located on the control board label located near the microSD port (we recommend a tool like this)
- ssh @admin(proto-miner-xxxx) and run a sudo reboot command
SSH reboot from LAN
If the reboot command does not return the miner to a normal state:
- From the Proto dashboard, select Logs from the left-nav menu
- From the upper right of your dashboard, click Export
- Email the logs to mining.support@block.xyz ffor further assistance and hashboard replacement
- Unplug the miner
- Remove the rear fan module

Next, replace the hashboard
For proper alignment, ensure the top edge of the hashboard is inserted into the first slot of each top partition. Be careful not to damage the board edges or components.
Power loss
Hashboard lost power
If you receive a warning notification that your hashboard has lost power, it is likely that your control board has lost communication with the hashboard. You may proactively resolve this issue using one of the following mehtods:
- From the Proto dashboard, click the Power icon in the upper right of your screen
- Select Reboot
Dashboard reboot from LAN

USB connection lost
Hashboard lost USB connection
If you receive an error notification that your hashboard has lost USB connection, it is likely the control board has lost communication with a hashboard. If this occurs, the control board will attempt to restart the affected hashboard up to three times within five minutes, while unaffected hashboards continue to hash. If the affected hashboard is unrecoverable, the control board will disable the affected hashboard.
- Unplug the miner
- Remove the top cover
- Check the USB connections
Check the USB connections
If the USB connections are secure, you may attempt a manual reboot:
- From the Proto dashboard, click the Power icon in the upper right of your screen
- Select Reboot
Dashboard reboot from LAN
API Reboot from LAN
From your LAN, send a request to your POST/api/v1/mining/system/reboot endpoint
- First, generate your password from the serial number located on the control board label located near the microSD port (we recommend a tool like this)

ASIC issues
Failure
ASIC not operational
The ASIC failure notification is triggered when one or more ASICs stops hashing. If you receive this notification:
- From the Proto dashboard, select Logs from the left-nav menu
- From the upper right of your dashboard, click Export
- Email the logs to mining.support@block.xyz for further assistance and hashboard replacement
- Unplug the miner
- Remove the rear fan module

Overheating
ASICs overheating
The ASIC overheating notification is triggered when a subset of your ASICs reach 115 °C (239 °F). If your ASICs reach this temperature, the control board will attempt to restart the affected hashboard up to three times within five minutes, while unaffected hashboards continue to hash.
